HARDWOOD FLOORING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Have questions about your flooring project? Explore our frequently asked questions below for helpful information and quick answers.

There are two types of hardwood flooring: solid hardwood and engineered hardwood. Hardwood flooring is made from solid wood harvested from any hardwood tree species or grade. It’s a dense and durable type of flooring that can last for generations if properly maintained.

Solid hardwood is made from one solid piece of 100% natural wood. This allows for resanding/refinishing in the future.
Engineered hardwood is manufactured with layers of plywood that are bonded with heat, pressure, and adhesives. This allows for the wood to be more stable ensuring wider planks can be installed without shrinkage or expanding.

Most manufacturers recommend that both solid and engineered hardwood be acclimated in the space for no less than 72 hours.

There are many varieties of hardwood flooring with a wide selection of colours and grain patterns to choose from. We supply some of the highest quality hardwood floorings from top brands that offer different species, including birch, walnut, red and white oak, maple, and hickory.

Regardless of the species or type of hardwood, we recommend our clients verify that the humidity of the home is within the manufacturer’s recommended percentage to guarantee you’re getting the longevity out of the flooring as it’s designed.

The time it takes to install hardwood floors depends on the size of the room, the condition of the existing floor, and the complexity of the process, such as angles, tight corners, and unique areas of the room. Keep in mind that hardwood also needs to acclimate to the space for at least 72 hours. To give you an idea of installation time, a standard 10’ by 20’ bedroom hardwood installation can take anywhere from 2-3 hours.

There are many advantages of hardwood flooring that make it one of the most popular flooring choices for both residential and commercial settings. Hardwood floors offer strength and durability that will last for many years and can transform any space, bringing an elegant, sophisticated, and high-end feel.

Furthermore, hardwood flooring is easy to maintain and can boost your property’s resale value. Regardless of current home design trends, hardwood has a timeless quality that can match any decor, with a variety of finishes to choose from.
